Rockstar
Janardan , born and brought up in the very middle class locality of Pitampura in Delhi, has a larger than life dream – of being a rockstar like Jim Morrison! But all he gets from his reluctant audience is ridicule and humiliation. He’s at his wit’s end ,when he realises that all musical stars, all artists in fact, have one thing in common. And that is tragedy. They all have tragic lives. They have all suffered painful heartbreaks to become what they are. Alas, there is no pain in Janardan’s life – it is an oasis of peace. Unless he does something drastic, he will never become a rockstar. Heer Kaul is the undisputed diva of the college campus – beautiful, talented, arrogant, rich, unavailable. She has broken many hearts. . Janardan hopes she will break his heart too. He sets out to woo Heer with the sole object of getting his heart broken. Rock star is the journey of a boy – who leaves behind Janardan to become Jordan; who traverses the highs and lows of life – from simple naivete to tortured soul, from the pleasure of unaffected friendship to the torment of unrequited love, from the campus in Delhi to the international stage… He ultimately gets all that his heart has ever desired…but in the process loses his heart forever…

Rockstar—absolutely a fantastic movie …i should say its a cult movie specially the songs , the music was the best one i heard after a very long time, AR Rehman was the real hero of the movie, however Ranbir Kapoor has shown what kind of actor is he, a superb performance from him which is 5/5 the movie though gets a little boring in 2nd part hence i will rate at 4/5.
First of all, i’d say i enjoyed this movie mostly because of the songs. Before release I’ve been always listening the songs and that makes me crazy to watch Rockstar on theatre. In my life this is my first hindi Movie that i watched in a theatre. I simply Love A.R Rahman & Ranbir. The first 10 minutes was really awesome. And the first half was interesting. But I dt believe that the director fails to connect the story b/w first n second half. he has his own views. May be we failed to connect the story b/w. the flow of the movie is also really awesome. Its all abt music. So thats y i took it as a director’s challenge film and also appreciate Rahman sir n Ranbir.
It doesnt matter how the view of a person is, is all about for Goodness. One reason is that people watched Rockstar before they dislikes.. Thats the Spirit of Rockstar’s Team Members.
This movie is a complete waste of 300 rupees and 3 hours of my life.
Jokes were bad, characters were shallow, music was pedestrian and story lacked direction..
A short take – it turned out to be a damp squib. The film runs very well up to the point of interval, but then loses everything in the second half. In fact I particularly liked the first 10mins. They showed the potential of a film based on a rockstar. But it wasn’t about a rockstar. It was a man chasing his love, who had got away from him, but he refused to believe that he had lost her.
Nice Movie. Must watch it..really good one
Rockstar is a movie which may not have worked, had Imtiaz ali casted another hero instead of Ranbir Kapoor
Right from the first shot one gets immersed into the world of JJ , a middle class guy who wants to be a Rockstar. JJ has been advised by his mentor: to be a real musician he must have felt the pain of Broken heart and then only he could achieve the zenith of a real musician.
This advice initiated this journey of Janardhan Jhakad; to seek a true love that destinies to be terminated in despair; so that he can become a real Rockstar. His search ends with ‘Heer’ (Nargis Fakhri) a beauteous suave maiden, a sure-shot formula, to experience the heart break(dil todne ki machine).
Piyus Mehta is hilarious .Kumud Mishra excels as JJ’s guide and mentor. The movie shows the biographical transition of JJ from a middle class lad to millionaire rockstar.
AR Rahman’s music is soulful and would make ones’ heart cringe. One can feel the pain that Jordan goes through. Ranbir has acted really well.
However, all JJ wants to be is a successful rockstar like Jim Morrison. After attaining his dreams, he still feels the emptiness and in his angst the music he plays is the reflection of his soul. The movie drags a bit in the second half, but has plenty of moments to keep you intact and entertained.
Final verdict :: There maybe Krish, Dabangs ,Idiots or G One ’s of Bolywood but then the Next Rockstar of Bollywood has arrived.
Rockstar is all about the new Kapoor scion…Ranbir Kapoor and the soulful, rocking music by A R Rahman. The movie starts on a promising note…with Janardhan Jakhad/ Jordan(Ranbir Kapoor) aspiring to be a famous Rockstar… the story is all about how he goes on to become one and in the process changes from being a simple fun loving person into a Rockstar filled with angst! First half is excellent… however, the story moves nowhere in the second half. It drags along… so all you got to do in the second half is enjoying the brilliant music by A R Rahman and the brilliance of an actor…RANBIR KAPOOR!
Not to forget…lyrics are xcellent…
Definitely a one time watch…. atleast!
The movie highlights how media creates Image of an artist and how record companies exploit that image for monetary gains. When u watch the movie u’ll notice what actually happened and how its shown on TV. Meanwhile, there’s also a long, cute and twisted tale of love.
Its the musical journey of a very normal Delhi guy from cute to intense. Ranbir’s acting is the highlight of the movie, while Nargis cant honestly act but her good looks compensate for that.
Overall, a nice watch and a good Imtiaz Ali movie with huge support from A.R. Rahman’s soulful music.
